H2O Lab!

Learn about responsible water use

Welcome Parents & Guardians

Your child is participating in the H₂O Lab! water education program, designed to help students understand where their water comes from, how it’s used, and why conservation matters in our community.

Below, you’ll find a quick overview of what your child is learning in class, how you can support their learning at home, details about the Water Conservation Kit they brought home, and optional student contests.

We also invite you to complete a short Parent Evaluation. Your feedback helps us understand what worked well, how the program supported your family, and how we can continue improving this experience for future students.

What Your Child Is Doing in Class

During the program, students:

  • Learn where our local water comes from
  • Explore how water is used in and around the home
  • Understand why conservation helps to prevent subsidence, protects our aquifers, and future supply
  • Practice identifying simple actions that save water every day
  • Prepare to apply what they’ve learned at home using their Water Conservation Kit

Each lesson builds toward real-world action, not just awareness.

Water Conservation Kit (Take-Home)

Each student receives a Water Conservation Kit to take home and use with their family.

The kit includes water-saving tools designed to be easy, safe, and family-friendly. Students are encouraged to install or use the items with an adult and then reflect on their experience through short online activities.

👉 Installation help and videos are available to walk families through each item step-by-step.

Adult supervision is recommended for all installations. Installation may vary depending on your home’s fixtures.

Student Contests

Students may choose to participate in optional program contests, including:

  • Video Contest – creating a short PSA sharing what they learned about water conservation
  • Artwork Contest – showing conservation actions at home

Participation is optional, but encouraged. Contest prizes include Amazon gift cards and publication in the materials for next year.

How Parents Can Support Their Child

You don’t need to be a water expert — small conversations and simple actions make a big difference Parents can help by:

  • Talking with your child about what they’re learning in class
  • Helping install or use the Water Conservation Kit items
  • Watching the short installation videos together
  • Encouraging your child to complete their online activities
  • Looking for easy ways your household can save water together

These shared experiences help reinforce learning and build long-term conservation habits.
